Mercy San Juan named in nation's 100 Top Hospitals
For the second consecutive year, Mercy San Juan Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals. It is one of only four California hospitals receiving the designation for 2007 and the only California hospital listed in the “large community hospital” category.
Thomson Healthcare announced the winners of the 15th annual 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks for Success study on its Web site (
100tophospitals.com
) on March 17, 2008. The annual study identifies the nation’s top performing hospitals, using the two most recent years of data. A story featuring the 100 Top Hospitals also appears in the March issue of
Modern Healthcare.
Thomson compared hospitals across the country in eight performance areas centered on clinical excellence, operating efficiency and financial health, as well as responsiveness to the community.
“This honor is a testament to the skill and commitment of Mercy physicians, staff and volunteers who focus every day on providing excellent care to our patients,” says Brian Ivie, Mercy San Juan Medical Center President. “The fact that we’ve been named a Top 100 Hospital for the second year running shows we are continuing on our path to becoming one of the premier medical centers in the country.”
Mercy San Juan is listed among 20 hospitals in the large community hospital category. Thomson also recognized 15 major teaching hospitals, 25 teaching hospitals, 20 medium community hospitals and 20 small community hospitals. According to Thomson, study results show that the 100 Top Hospitals have higher survival rates, keep more patients complication-free and attract more patients – all while maintaining financial stability.
