Mercy San Juan named in nation's 100 Top Hospitals

Mercy San Juan Medical Center was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals based on 2006 and 2007 studies. It was one of only four California hospitals receiving the designation for 2007 and the only California hospital listed in the “large community hospital” category.

The 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks for Success study by Thomson Healthcare identifies the nation’s top performing hospitals, using the two most recent years of data. It has conducted studies since 1993, with the most recent 2008 study results released on March 29, 2009.

Thomson compares hospitals across the country in performance areas centered on clinical excellence, operating efficiency and financial health, as well as responsiveness to the community.

In the 2007 benchmark study, Mercy San Juan was listed among 20 hospitals in the large community hospital category. Thomson also recognized 15 major teaching hospitals, 25 teaching hospitals, 20 medium community hospitals and 20 small community hospitals. According to Thomson, study results show that the 100 Top Hospitals have higher survival rates, keep more patients complication-free and attract more patients – all while maintaining financial stability.
