SAFE KIDS Coalition
Unintentional injury is the leading killer of children. Each year in Sacramento approximately 25 children are killed and 9,000 injured by accidents. Experts estimate that 90 percent of these injuries and deaths could have been prevented, or their impact lessened, by adopting safer behaviors.
The Greater Sacramento SAFE KIDS coalition, led by Mercy San Juan Medical Center, is comprised of more than 30 local agencies, including representatives from hospitals, fire, police, state and county agencies devoted to preventing childhood injury and death. The Greater Sacramento SAFE KIDS is part of National SAFE KIDS Campaign, the first and only national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury.
