Mercy San Juan expansion update
Mercy San Juan Medical Center has completed its $125 million expansion project, which includes a new 6-story wing in the hospital that brings 110 additional patient care beds to the community. The project also includes upgrades to the existing building and additional parking capacity to meet the needs of our patients, visitors, employees and doctors.
Highlights of the expansion include:
- All of the rooms in the new wing are private rooms
- A new entrance for Mercy San Juan, with a new chapel as the focal point
- New parking structure
- Mercy San Juan now has 370 beds, with the capacity to add 30 more. The final count will be determined by community need. In the current hospital, some semi-private rooms will be converted to private rooms.
The medical center began construction in summer 2007,and the new tower opened in December 2009. The project was planned with the concerns of patients, members of the school community and neighbors in mind. Efforts were made to minimize disruption caused by construction vehicles and construction activities. Mercy San Juan also worked with Sacramento County, Coyle Avenue Elementary School and local neighbors to discuss ways to provide traffic relief on Coyle Avenue.
