Mercy San Juan is a smoke-free environment

In concert with our healthcare mission, Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a smoke-free environment. Our priority is creating an enhanced healing environment for our patients and reducing the health risks associated with smoking for all individuals who work at and visit our facility.

Smoke-Free Policy
Smoking and the use of all other tobacco products is prohibited throughout the facility and on the grounds, including all exterior walkways and parking areas. This policy applies to employees, physicians, visitors, patients, vendors and volunteers. People who smoke will need to refrain or leave the hospital campus to smoke.

This Policy is About Where People Smoke
The issue is not about whether individuals choose to smoke, it is about WHERE they smoke. It does not take away an individual's choice to smoke, nor does it mandate that individuals quit smoking. It simply states that smoking is not permitted on the hospital campus. Patients who smoke can request inormation about our smoke-free policy and options for nicotine replacement therapy while they are hospitalized.

We Want to Help
To support individuals' efforts to quit smoking, Mercy regularly offers smoking cessation courses. For more information, go to Classes and Events, then click on "Classes" and look under "Smoking Cessation." Or you can call 537-5299 to sign up or learn more about our stop-smoking class. The smoking cessation course focuses on helping participants break the smoking habit, as that habit represents the single most important step smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives.
