Trauma Prevention Program

In addition to strong outcomes in patient care, the Trauma Center has created a Trauma Prevention Program that reaches out to the community in many ways.

  • SAFE KIDS
Mercy San Juan is the lead agency for the SAFE KIDS Coalition, a collaborative effort between healthcare, law enforcement, fire departments and other community leaders who work together to provide child safety education. In 2003, Mercy San Juan and SAFE KIDS were chosen from 500 such coalitions nationwide to receive an award for educating non-English speaking families about car seat safety.
  • $281,000 Grant to Help Slavic Community
The Trauma Prevention Program is working with the Citrus Heights Police Department to provide car seat and seat belt education to the Slavic community. This project is funded by a $281,000 grant from the state Office of Traffic and Safety.
  • Drunken Driving Prevention Among Teens
Mercy San Juan participates in the "Every 15 Minutes" program, a realistic reenactment of a car collision involving a drunken driver. The program, which has touched the lives of 14,000 high school students in the Sacramento area, shows teens the effect drunk driving has on others.
