CHW and the local Mercy Hospitals strive to provide rehabilitative care in an environment that encourages recovery, independence and a positive sense of well-being. A rehabilitation team works with patients to set goals and develop an individual treatment program to help them learn self-advocacy, responsibility and self-management. CHW and Mercy have the largest acute rehabilitation program in Sacramento. The program is also one of four California demonstration projects for rehabilitative treatment of traumatic head injury.

  • Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Program - Intense interdisciplinary education and training program for patients following stroke, head injury, spinal cord injury, major multiple trauma and other disabling conditions.
  • Subacute Rehabilitation - For patients requiring less intensive care than acute rehabilitation. Programs focus on orthopedic, neurological and wound care therapy.
  • Home Health Services - This comprehensive program is designed to assist patients who are ready to leave the hospital, but do not yet have the endurance to participate in outpatient treatment.
  • Outpatient Rehabilitation - Services include orthopedic physical therapy for spine care and sports injuries; injured worker services rehabilitation; hand and wrist therapy; stroke and neurologic rehabilitation, including Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) and Suspension Treadmill Gait Refinement Program; fall risk reduction program; traumatic brain injury rehabilitation; vestibular rehabilitation; and aquatic and wellness programs.
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation - Mercy's Pulmonary Rehabilitation program helps improve the quality of life for people with asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic pulmonary conditions.
  • Occupational Rehabilitation - Mercy General's professional team of Physical and Occupational Therapists provide comprehensive treatment for work-related injuries, with the ultimate goal of returning each patient to work as soon as possible with the knowledge and skills they need to prevent re-injury.
  • Physical Therapy Clinic at Mercy Medical Group Downtown - Featuring special clinic programs ranging from back and neck dysfunction to joint repairs and replacements to pre-employment screenings.
